A thought for the day
A teacher's purpose is not to create students in his own image, but to develop students who can create their own image.-Anonymous

Print-making
In Ms. Sanderson's Art Explorers class, students work on a print-making project. First, they made sketches from pictures. Then, they picked their favorite sketch and copied it on to a piece of flat foam. After that, they carefully went over their lines with a sharp stick to make indentations over the pencil. When they finally rolled printing ink over the foam, the indented lines did not collect ink. This leaves the finished piece with a really cool effect! Pictures of the finished products will be up soon. Make sure to check back :)

A different perspective on art...
Sanderson's class works on perspective paintings.
"we had to use a horizon line and then we put a dot which is called a vanishing point. We also made trees and buildings that get smaller. It looks like it's going away into the distance."

Cooking with Katzie
Today, Martino's group cooked some DELICIOUS food with Katzie. Here you'll see students whipping together some delicious berry/fresh whipped cream/ meringue dessert. Below that, catch a peek of some chopping action as students prep for the main dish: breakfast for dinner! We were amazed to discover a new vegetable today... Sea Beans! They look a little like seaweed and grow in salt marshes so are very salty. We used it in our scrambled eggs as a healthy alternative to loading on the table salt. Wonderful! There was also a kale salad (Ms. Angel's favorite veggie! All my juicers know kale is PACKED with nutrients.) Overall, it was a delicious and healthy meal. Thanks Katzie!

GOAL Prep's Origami group creates a tiny table and chair with origami paper. It was interesting seeing all of the intricate folds it takes to create a finished product. Great job!

GOAL Artists
Ms. Sanderson's Art class is currently creating artwork inspired by James Whistler. Here are some shots of the class using a splattering paint technique (fun and a little messy!) to finish off their work. Do you think they achieved their goal of creating a feeling of fireworks in a night sky?
If you run into Nahiyaan at GOAL, you should take a look at his amazing sketchbook. It's full of awesome drawings.
GOAL students continue to remind us of how important art is in our community. Great job!
